Altered ATC Tray
My inspiration?
The sweet wedding of my mom & stepfather 4 years ago.
My father died from cancer in 2005 and my mother would have been married for 50 years, if my father lived one more year.
She was very lonely and the path of love opened for her
to find a dear friend who also lost his wife in death several
years previous. My mom is 73 and Carl (my step father)
is in his 80's, I think they have amazinggg genes! :)
Well, they are "young" and in love to this day.
They are quite the adoration and sweetness!!
Now for some close ups & creative tidbits...

I used an alterable ATC tray. The inserts are measured 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" and these are the measurements I used to cut the photos and papers (used the Graphic 45 "Le Romantique" collection). Also, I used Mod Podge Matte as the adhesive to adhere papers inside the inserts. Just note, the tray was black and this was just not going to work for me on this project because I wanted a clean & polished look, so I spray painted it white with Krylon spray paint. Yep, truly altered.
I cut the paper to size (as above). The quote at the bottom ("Love does not...") of the paper is a rub-on transfer. I used pearls & bling as accents throughout the inserts of the entire project.
I used Liquitex Acrylic Paint Titanium White on the metal keyhole and key, worked the paint with a paper towel into the grooves, wiped "clean" with the towel, and allow to dry.
There is glitter and THEN there is Art Institute Glitter! Seriously, this glitter IS made for the artist! Not your cheapy, flaky, peeling glitter. Here are a few more steps in how I used the new chipboard keys + Art Institute Glitter (Christmas Glitter Kit) for these pretty cool keys:
I really like the Ultrafine Metal Tip for precision in applying the Designer Glue to small objects and also this would be perfect for writing. It comes with a stick pin to unclog the tip, in case that happens, but I didn't have any problems with it. The glue flows so well and the drying of the glitter + glue works in perfect harmony together! Definitely not your typical glitter glue! LOVE.IT.
I'm usually working on paper scraps and not really a non-stick craft mat (note the stamped images that have 0 to do with this blog post, ha!).
Generously apply/sprinkle the glitter to the chipboard key. I like to make sure all nooks & crannies are fully covered, hence, my mound of glitter, as you see. I chose to use the gold & silver in the Christmas Opaque Pee Wee Kit since these coordinated well with the Graphic 45 Le Romantique papers found here. The Art Institute Glitter website has LOTS of color choices here as well. The glitter kits come with several vials of color choice, so a lot of product in a mini vial.
Voila! Allow to dry. The glitter might "shed" a bit in the drying phase. However, I discovered as the glue & glitter dried together in perfection, the glue took on a different texture in hardness and I was very impressed with the quality and shimmer. This is definitely a glue for the ARTIST. I truly say that with confidence.
Now for a few more peeks into the project using the Graphic 45 Le Romantique papers collection. This collection is so elegant, timeless, and well, romantic...perfect for weddings, anniversaries, and celebrations.
Here I filled some empty corked vials with Art Institute Glitter for some sparkle and flair. The hanging charm is attached to the tray with a mini hanging screw, jewelry links and a hanging charm locket. For the locket, I attached a sticker quote and applied Ranger Glossy Accents, and allowed to dry completely. I just love the rose paper in the background from Graphic 45 Le Romantique collection.
For the hanging lockets, I attached mini photos inside the lockets, applied Ranger Glossy Accents, and allowed to dry completely. On the paper, I stamped the words using Clearsnap ColorBox Archival Dye Ink in Wicked Black.
For this ornate wood frame, I applied Clearsnap Colorbox Cat's Eye Fluid Chalk to otherwise a plain wood frame. Also, I applied a bling border, under the frame. Here are a few more details into the creative process to color the frame:
When I apply chalk ink to wood, I always apply one coat of the Clearsnap Colorbox Cat's Eye Fluid Chalk, quick set with a heat tool (I use Ranger Heat It Craft Tool), then apply a second coat of the chalk ink, and another quick heat set. My rationale on this...I live in a humid city, so this works best for me and I find it doesn't smear off.
More hanging screws attached with some dangles of jewels and pearls. Perfect for the wedding theme!
I followed the same process here on the wings (as noted above on the keys with the acrylic paint). Also, attached the pearls swirl to the edge.
